PRESIDENT'S REPORT

Dear Alumni and Friends,

The fall semester is off to an excellent start with our study abroad and degree students studying in Aix, Barcelona, Florence, and Madrid with some additional field studies to Morocco. Our programs continue to prosper under the guidance of our talented faculty and staff in all locations. From new Centers for Wine and Gastronomy and Student Success in Aix to an inaugural partnership with the University of Sharjah in Barcelona, and the expansion of academic programs in Madrid, we're seeing dynamic growth across the board. This growth extends to ACM as well, where we've welcomed close to fifty degree-seeking students this fall in Aix and Barcelona. I also had the distinct pleasure of welcoming a number of visiting alumni this past summer and earlier this fall during their travels through Europe.

Please stay in touch with us and keep us posted on any travel plans you may have in the future — we would welcome the opportunity to see you back on campus and rekindle the nostalgia we all feel for our much-loved institution. We are so grateful to our alumni and donors for their continued support and great affection for ACM-IAU.

Sincerely,

CARL JUBRAN, PhD | President, ACM-IAU

ACM-IAU Announces Capital Campaign

ACM-IAU is proud to announce it is entering into a major capital campaign with the goal of raising $4 million by May 2027, culminating with our 70th Anniversary Celebration and Gala in Aix-en-Provence, France. Stay tuned for further details!

New Donation Platform

We've recently made an upgrade to our donation platform, which will modernize our software and user experience! This new platform includes an easy-access donor portal which will allow you to set up recurring donations, view donation history, and update profile information more efficiently.

We are immensely grateful to our alumni and donors whose support allows our institution to continue its growth, and create more scholarship opportunities for students going abroad, whether through an IAU study abroad or ACM degree program.

Class of 1976-77 Zoom Reunion

zoom reunion

Thanks to 1976-77 alum Rhonda Epstein's initiative, we reunited with several members of the Aix-en-Provence class of 1976-77 in a virtual reunion this summer! Alumni were able to reconnect, share stories from their time at IAU, and give updates on themselves and their families.

    Alumni Support of Recruitment Efforts

    SusanWheaton

1972-73 Aix alumna Susan Brinkman was recently joined by Spring 2024 Aix alumna Camryn Burleigh to represent IAU during the study abroad fair at Wheaton College (IL) this September.

We've had the pleasure of working with Susan over the years for representation at study abroad fairs, and this year was no exception — and it's extra special to see our alumni from over 30 years apart come together!

      Program Updates

      FALL GRAPE HARVEST

Our students in Aix just participated in the fall grape harvest at the ACM-IAU vineyard, "Les Saules." The grape harvest and wine production is organized by Professor Anthony Triolo, the Director of the IAU Center for Wine and Gastronomy.

BARCELONA WELCOMES NEW PARTNERSHIPS AND ACM STUDENTS

Tapas and Sangria workshop for Early Start Program students in Barcelona.

The Barcelona Center continues to grow and flourish in new ways. In August we welcomed our first group of students from the UAE who participated in an intercultural management course. This inaugural partnership with the University of Sharjah contributes uniquely to the diversity efforts of our institution. In addition, the Center just welcomed our new cohorts of students in ACM's MBA and MA in International Education. These students are studying with some of the most talented international experts in leadership, strategic management, and finance.

        MADRID CENTER

Our Madrid Center is also growing and offering new academic programs in Spanish Honors, Human Rights and Engineering, and Computer Science. Our partnership with the Fundación Ortega Marañón has provided students the opportunity to study in the heart of the historic center of Madrid and engage in meaningful dialogue with Spanish students of their generation.

          Campus Updates

          VILLA CELONY

The Donna Dillon Manning School of Global Affairs, the Student Life Office, and the Wellness Center are now located in our new building, Villa Celony. This space, a short walk from 2bis Rue du Bon Pasteur and Manning Hall, includes classrooms, conference rooms, student lounges, a garden, and even a swimming pool which students can enjoy in the summer months.

Villa Celony is located at 42 Rue Célony, 13100 Aix-en-Provence, right behind the Pavillon Vendôme.

CAFE MED & THE CENTER FOR WINE AND GASTRONOMY

          cafe med

Café Med is situated in Place de l'Université, across from the Cathedrale Saint-Saveur.

Our fall students in Aix joined the faculty and staff in the inauguration of our very own student café in the historical center of Aix. The new “Café Med” will provide our campus community with an opportunity to congregate and break bread together regularly in the light and warmth of Provence. We are now offering convenient and affordable meal plans to students as well as regular courses in French cuisine and wine studies at the new Center for Wine and Gastronomy.

          THE CENTER FOR STUDENT SUCCESS

Our new Center for Student Success, headquartered in Aix, is another example of the high-touch and high-impact learning we are promoting in all of our locations. This new Center mentors students for future career goals, offers tutoring in a variety of subjects and works closely with each student on improving their writing and language skills.

          Accreditation

We are pleased to announce that the New England Commission of Higher Education has approved our second year of candidacy and accelerated our review for initial accreditation to October 2025. Our faculty and staff will be working diligently this coming year as we prepare for the final institutional self-study of the initial accreditation process. Our efforts to seek accreditation have created an unprecedented sense of solidarity among our faculty and staff and we are all working enthusiastically together towards this goal.

Return to IAU | ACM Degree Programs

In addition to our hundreds of study abroad students, we have been enrolling our own degree-seeking students at ACM since 2016. This fall we welcomed close to fifty degree seeking students currently pursuing a BA, MA or MFA at our Aix Campus and Barcelona Center. Of the currently enrolled students, 25% are first-generation college students, students of color, or those from otherwise diverse backgrounds.

IAU alumni interested in returning to the Mediterranean could qualify for a minimum of $15,000 in grants and scholarships towards select master's degrees at ACM's campus in Aix-en-Provence, France and center in Barcelona, Spain. Not only has the alumni grant been increased to $5,000 and is applicable to all graduate programs, the newly announced Founder's Scholarship and Arts & Language Scholarship of $10,000 are earmarked for students enrolling Fall 2025 in any of our six graduate degree programs and are made possible thanks to ACM-IAU's board of trustees and generous donors.
